Six month update

Tuesday, 30th June 2009

Bullseye!

Back in January, we had predicted a year of growth despite the current economic climate, and six months later, we are exceeding our original predictions in all areas of the business.

Read on to discover the targets we’re smashing and to learn about the brand new services we are able to provide to our customers.

Depot Expansion

There has been such a rapid growth in Palletways operations at our Welshpool branch that we outgrew our original complex. Thus, the excavators were called in and we invested thousands of pounds in expanding our depot to cope with extra freight traffic.

Area coverage expansion

Due to our exceptional performance within the Palletways group, we were approached to look after the HR postcode areas within the Palletways network. This has prompted external contractors to assist in the delivery driver side of the business and we have recruited two additional office staff to cope with demand. By the end of the year we hope to have all delivery vehicles under the Speed banner and undertaken by our own transport, subject to our pending Operator’s license being approved.

Management restructure

With the increased business from expansion, we have promoted staff in two key areas. Mark Jones, who previously was employed as a full-time HGV driver has now taken the helm in day-to-day running of Palletways operations. Secondly, Phil Edwards, who previously was employed as Business Development Manager has now taken over the role of Managing Director.

Parcel service growth

In the first half of 2009, the parcel service area of Speed is turning over 30% more per month than that of 2008. Nightly, we are despatching in excess of 500 parcels to other areas of the country.

International parcel service launched

Global parcel service

For the first time ever, we can now offer worldwide delivery of parcels via air, sea and road due to a critical relationship being cemented with a leading freight forwarder. Due to multi-national parcel couriers finding our rural area tricky, we are finding that international parcel consignments are now our fastest growing area of the business.

Here’s to a prosperous 2009!

Monday, 12th January 2009

It’s January and the start of a brand new year! Here at Speed Distribution, 2009 is looking exciting.

The current worldwide economic recession is hitting the industry hard, but here at Speed, due to fiscal management and increased sales, we are still expecting a year of growth.

After nearly nine months of side-by-side operation, our Palletways and Nightfreight integration of services is working beyond our expectations, with dozens of new customers positively reviewing our services.

Over at Palletways, their European expansion is progressing well. The Iberian Peninsula has now been conquered (Portugal and Spain), as well as expansion into Italy, creating Palletways Italia. This means we are able to offer pallet distribution to even more of Europe from just £75.00 per pallet, whilst still offering full online track and trace facilities right here at speeddistribution.co.uk. Our inter-UK pallet service price is tumbling, reaching new recession beating lows of £25.00 per pallet upwards, again with full online track and trace facilities.

Here at Speed, we have recently hired a dedicated Sales Manager. Andy Grosvenor has award-winning sales experience in the transport industry and we wish him the best of luck on the Speed team. To contact Andy, please click here.

We have lots of plans over the coming months. We are looking to expand our range of services at Welshpool, including storage facilities. We are also currently looking at increasing our fleet of vehicles as well as securing some large local distribution contracts.

As a member of the Palletways UK network, we proudly support the Everyman charity which is funding research to cross out male cancer. Over the coming months we will be holding a local charity event to raise money for Everyman, so keep your eyes peeled for more information on this as it is organised!

In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to thank your ongoing support in 2008 and may we wish you all the best for 2009.

- Phil Edwards (Business Development Manager)

Unprecedented success with Palletways/Speed alliance

Monday, 21st April 2008

After just two weeks of Palletways operation at our Welshpool branch, we are smashing records that other local carriers could only dream of.

Business Development Manager - Phil Edwards - the mastermind behind the alliance is happier than ever: “After just two weeks of service we have broken the ‘20 pallets a night’ barrier - that is, sending out 20 pallets in one night from our local customers. If you’re in the industry, you’ll know just how important such a target is and how thrilled we are to have smashed this record after just two weeks service. Furthermore, with even more key local customers coming on board any day now, things look set to continue as we go from success to success.”

This fantastic news couldn’t come at a better time. Keep your eyes peeled as Palletways - Europe’s largest and fastest growing provider of express distribution services for small consignments of palletised goods - are looking to create a press release on Speed Distribution in local and national news mediums.

Managing Director, Martin Rutty sums up: "We already have a fantastic array of parcel based services at our disposal, allowing us to extend this to the customer in and around Welshpool. But with Palletways on board, we can double this up and provide a pallet service to match. Your complete carrier, if you like."

Speed are due to commence Palletways haulage on 7th April. If you would like more information, please click here .
